Hanukkah Roundup! 3 things we always do for Hanukkah ππβ¨
Hanukkah is here! We have been celebrating this holiday for about 8 years now and our children have grown to love it. We started celebrating it when my oldest son was 3 yrs old and it was a gradual move away from Christmas that finally culminated in our full blown adoption of Hanukkah at home.
Essentially, our children haven't known any other winter holiday celebration at home except for Hanukkah. This is shocking to me! Looking back, I am so glad we made the switch for our family while the kids were still little.
Today, we may gather with family for Christmas eve some years and enjoy family time with them, but as for our home celebrations, we stick to the light of Hanukkah π€ Keep reading for ideas on how we have decorated for Hanukkah and celebrated this biblical holiday in years past!

We decorate!
Yeah we go crazy and decorate the house because the light of Torah, Messiah and Religious Freedom is something to celebrate every year! I love to make this holiday special for our children bc celebrating Hanukkah can easily make anyone feel like an odd ball. Many people don't even know what Hanukkah is about, much less that this holiday is in the Gospels. Yes, Messiah even participated in it!
To me, this holiday provides the yearly motivation I need to stay away from all forms of syncretism in our spiritual lives and a much needed reminder to dedicate all areas of our lives to Messiah and His coming kingdom.
We bake cookies
It has become a tradition of sorts. We bake sugar cookies and decorate them. It is a lovely way to celebrate Hanukkah and to bless other people like family, friends or neighbors. I will continue to do this as long as the kids are willing to join me βΊοΈ
We light the Menorah & read our Hanukkah book
We gather around the table every evening on Hanukkah and light the menorah! We also read our Hanukkah book and remember Jesus's words during this holiday. This year we are excited about joining our congregation to light the menorah and attending a public menorah lighting in our town.
How do you celebrate?
