The parable of the ten virgins is all about waiting for Messiah with the proper attitude and lived out faith. We are to wait soberly and shinning the light of Torah and Messiah with others.
I remember a time when I was about to turn 10 and my father wanted to gift me a trip to Disney World! This was the very first time I had ever been to Florida or Disney at all. I was so excited with anticipation that the night before Disney I could hardly sleep.
I lay awake in my bed, staring at the ceiling and imagine the next day at Disney. What princesses would I meet?! How many autographs would I collect? How many rides would we take?
I was over the moon! Wide awake with anticipation and excitement. Friends, this is how the apostles felt about Messiah's return. This is how we should wait for the Day of Our Lord's coming. With wide-eyed anticipation of something so special and transformative, that no matter how dark it may be out in the midnight hour, the light of our lamps will be shining and vibrantly waiting for the bridegroom's coming!
