Waiting though Messiah Tarries

How should we wait when the Day of the Lord delays? That's what the parable of the talents is all about. When Messiah's return seems to tarry, disciples often begin to lose interest. How many of us grew up with anticipation of Messiah's return but as we grew into adulthood that anticipation began to wane into nonexistence perhaps. Hopefully not because in this parable Messiah is challenging us to wait for His return wisely and industriously even if the Master is delayed on a 'long journey'.

Now what does it mean to wait wisely and industriously? The Lord has given us gifts or talents. These treasures can be likened to the Light of the Torah and the Mysteries of the Gospel of the Kingdom. As servants of the Master, we are to use these talents wisely, studying them, living them out and multiplying them in the lives of others. That is how we are to wait wisely and industriously for Him.

I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Messiah, and though he may tarry, still I await him every day- Rambam's 12th Principle of Faith
