Parable of The Fig Tree 🌳
The Fig Tree Symbolizes Israel's Spiritual Condition
How often have we read Jesus's parables about the fig tree or the cursing of the Fig tree without understanding it one single bit? 🙋🏽♀️ I'll be the first to raise my hand! So it came as a complete relief when I learned that scripturally the fig tree was used to symbolize the condition of Israel. If the fig tree was was blooming and producing good fruit in its season, it spoke of the condition of Israel as faithful covenant people. But if the fig tree was not producing fruit in it's season or producing rotten fruit, then it spoke of Israel's covenant unfaithfulness. The rabbis also used fig trees symbolically, often connecting them with diligence in Torah and spiritual fruitfulness.
Now we can truly appreciate and understand Jesus's parable of the Fig Tree! 👏
